Fish Mail: Revolutionizing Courier Service

Efficient, Safe, and Aesthetically Pleasing Delivery Car Design

The Fish Mail design was inspired by the current state of courier transport in China, where most small courier transport vehicles are transformed from civilian vehicles. This has resulted in poor professionalism, safety, and comfort, and low delivery efficiency. The designers aimed to improve distribution efficiency and service quality, and promote the healthy development of the courier industry. The design draws inspiration from the form of a fish, symbolizing luck and wealth in Chinese culture.

What sets Fish Mail apart from other delivery vehicles is its unique fission design. The vehicle is made up of two parts, allowing it to perform two types of delivery services: customer pick-up and door-to-door delivery. This greatly surpasses the efficiency of traditional postal delivery. The vehicle's design and functionality were realized using gyroscope technology, cloud technology, and solar technology, and built with ABS, glass, steel, aluminum, and magnesium alloy.

The Fish Mail design faced several challenges. The designers had to determine how to combine the main car and the vice car, whether the two cars would drive together by traction or wireless tracking, and how to achieve this at the lowest cost. After much thought and discussion, they decided on a minimalist design and the use of popular technology to achieve the desired appearance and function.

The Fish Mail project was carried out from December 2014 to February 2017 at the School of Industrial Design, LuXun Academy of Fine Arts. The designers conducted extensive research into the courier industry in China and other developed countries and found that the express industry distribution link was not perfect. They designed Fish Mail to enhance the security of distribution of goods, promote the job of a postman work efficiency and comfort, and have a positive impact on the whole industry and the appearance of the city.
